Letterboxd — Your life in film

This was a 5, but it loses a sliver of star every time Wes Anderson pumps out another hipster infomercial.

As Rushmore was derivative of Harold and Maude, so Submarine is derivative of Rushmore (and Harold and Maude). Never allows itself to be itself, which is a shame, as there's probably a nice bildungsroman somewhere, and the characters never emerg from the murky depths of artifice (terribly witty submarine pun) for long enough to become really knowable or likeable.

Watch Harold and Maude. Then watch Rushmore. Then watch this.
