Jabba Jabba’s review published on Letterboxd:
A slice of life in 1963 New England, with Cher playing the flamboyant single mother of two who is struggling to let herself fall for a kind caring new love interest and father figure for her girls. Winona Ryder is the main focus of the film as her character tries to figure out how her blooming sexual feelings will impact her life. Christina Ricci plays the youngest daughter, and her charm makes this film feel a lot more real than it would without her. Bob Hoskins plays the new love interest towards Cher's character, and adds a world of heart to the script.
All that being said, the film works as a luke-warm offering of drama that never reaches the heights it set out to hit. The most emotional scene may be the Kennedy assassination news breaking through the town, and Ryder's reaction feels like the most honest and true emotions in the script.
