The Proposition 2005 ★★★½

Watched Aug 01, 2012

I'm not sure about this one. Half of it is brilliant; a gruesome, disgusting story of loyalty and justice--the boundaries of the means to an end. Guy Pearce, Danny Huston, John Hurt and Ray Winstone turn in incredible performances. On the other half, there are things here that baffle me: the obviously conscious decision to have every gun that goes off go off when the rest of the mix is dead quiet, Emily Watson's abysmal performance (it's as though her character is stuck in another film while everybody else reacts to the events realistically) and some truly bizarre editing decisions. It's a good film; I'm glad I watched it. Would I watch it again...?
