Django Unchained 2012
'I like the way you die boy'
I like the way you direct Mr. Tarantino. Django is off the chain!

The Avengers 2012
Amazing. Joss Whedon has done it. Action, laughs and character moments abound. Each Avenger has a chance to shine and no one feels marginalized. The last hour just never lets up and is relentless. The Avengers is a classic in the superhero genre.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
Magnificent conclusion to the Nolan trilogy.
If Batman was the star of Batman Begins and The Joker ruled The Dark Knight, then this film is the story of Bruce Wayne .Awesome and audacious filmmaking at the highest level.

Silver Linings Playbook 2012
Strange feelgood romantic comedy/drama with excellent performances from the two leads. Bradley Cooper shows just what he can do when given a great role and Jennifer Lawrence just gets better and better, and more beautiful. Very entertaining and I had something in my eye at the end.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012
I can't really begin my review without talking about the new 48FPS 3D HFR format as it ruined my first viewing of the film. Some scenes looked sped up. The effects looked cheap especially the green screen shots. It looked like a shoddy made for television effort, or one of the Golan/Globus efforts from the eighties that was made on a micro budget. I almost walked out and just wanted it to end.
Fast forward 24 hours to a 2D…

Prometheus 2012
Prometheus has landed. Strong visuals, great performances from the main cast especially Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba. Ambitious and beautiful, it doesn't quite work as a cohesive whole but there are some stunning set pieces.

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
Wes Anderson's first live action film for five years. Set in the 1960's in New England, the story focuses on two young lovers who run away together. Fine performances from Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Frances McDormand. It is the two central figures of Suzy (Kara Jayward) and Sam (Jared Gilman) which really set the film apart. Sweet and melancholy, this is well worth checking out if you love Anderson's work.

The Cabin in the Woods 2012
After sitting on the shelf for 18 months this has finally been released and it's well worth the wait. Try to see this film with knowing little or nothing about the plot. Avoid trailers and reviews if you can and enjoy.

Zero Dark Thirty 2012
Kathryn Bigelow's film on the hunt for Bin Laden lives up to expectations. Jessica Chastain is great here and really deserves her oscar nomination. It fells overlong but the climactic sequence as the net closes in is brilliant filmmaking.

The Hunger Games 2012
I felt this was very much a Battle Royale lite. After a strong build up and some thrilling action sequences the ending felt flat and unsatisfying. Jennifer Lawrence though is terrific, the film alone is worth seeing for her strong central performance.
