For all its philosophy and grandstanding, this was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. Yes, the special effects were great, but the incredibly slow pacing of the movie practically put me to sleep. I think its aim was to be a film like "2001", but it wasn't even remotely close. And, Pitt's narration (done in almost a monotone), was hard to put up with. A very bland movie for me. I was hoping for so much more.
I love Tracy & Hepburn together. However, this movie just doesn't work for me. Maybe at the time is was made, it was truly revolutionary, but today Hepburn's workaholic, driven woman is almost a cartoon. The ending is just about as ridiculous as it can possibly be. All of a sudden this woman, who in all other parts of life is incredibly good, falls to pieces when confronted with a toaster. No, Tess would have figured it out. While Tracy and Hepburn act their hearts out, they are confronted with a script that just doesn't do them justice.
Wow! I came away from this film utterly disappointed. It is almost to ambiguous for its own good until the end when a slapped on conclusion lets the air totally out from the balloon. It is the ending that should have been ambiguous to go along with the rest of the film. That might have made me given it a higher rating. As someone else mentioned, it's not the least bit scary.
If the storyline was as good as the look of the film, the filmmakers might have had something. MEH!
If you've seen "Alien", then you've seen "Life." There are so many similar scenes that they could've called this "Alien***" and gotten away with it.
While technically the film is pretty fantastic, the storyline is the same old, same old. You'll find yourself saying (sarcastically) "Wow, I've never seen that before!" Even the talent is underused. I love Jake Gyllenhal, but in this movie his talents are wasted. It's a shame.
Within the first ten minutes, I knew exactly what…
