Adam Cook’s review:
Gavin O’Connor’s Warrior proved that you could tell an excellent underdog story set in the world of mixed martial arts. Circle of Pain proves you can also make a bloody terrible one too. This follows the well worn Rocky template with tough no-nonsense training montages, family strife and against the odd stakes. Unfortunately where Rocky had characters you loved, a great script and direction, here we get Dean Cain and a bunch of no-name actors delivering clunky lines and getting involved in even clunkier fights.
