List by Adam Cook Patron
100 Favourite Sci-Fi Films
Title says it all really. My favourite science-fiction films from 1 to 100.
Before anybody asks, Star Wars are not on the list as I consider them fantasy and not sci-fi.

Cool list. A fair few titles here to go on my watchlist. Been meaning to check out that Saul Bass ant film for ages! Good to see the Teshigahara on here - that Criterion boxset is a stunner...
I'm a big fan of Teshigahara and The Face of Another would probably make a good double bill with another film on the list; Seconds.
@Phil: If you are a fan of Russian sci-fi then you should like The Ugly Swans. The director's earlier film, Dead Man's Letters (at number 12 on the list) is even better though.
Seconds is a bloody brilliant movie. Cool list, kudos for mentioned Seconds, Angel's Egg, Strange Days and A Boy and his Dog.
@Jacob: Have you seen a film called Mirage? It's not sci-fi but it has a similar tone to Seconds (although the ending runs out of steam a little) so it might be something you'd enjoy.
Nope, never seen Mirage, will try to check it out.
very nice list, there are few for me to check out here and nice to see eternal sunshine up there.
Thanks. I adore Eternal Sunshine (obviously, otherwise it wouldn't be at number one) and like the fact the sci-fi element is relatively unimportant even if it is actually crucial to the story.
Nice list. A little disappointing to not see Serenity though.
Serenity is the definition of an average sci-fi film for me I'm afraid. However, I've never watched an episode of Firefly so maybe I'm missing a whole layer of brilliance.
Serenity is an adjunct to Firefly. I saw Serenity first, and rather liked it as an action / space type of Sci-Fi. Years later I found Firefly, and then it was a whole new ballgame. Once you've watched Firefly, it's a good idea to let a lot of time pass before you watch Serenity, lest you hate it.
I wouldn't worry, I'm never going to watch Firefly as it really isn't my sort of show.
Thats a shame Adam, but I think we may have had this discussion a few months ago. Firefly is brilliant. For me it was definitely Joss Whedon's best work.
I would say check it out if you have the time. Its only half a season.
Ditto what Nathan said. Since you have to watch so many crappy movies (Yogi Bear!), if ever there's dearth of them, try a 'crappy' 13 episode tv series. You might be surprised. One of the best I know of.
A fair point, Lise. I think they are still showing it on Syfy so I'll try and catch a few episodes (unless I have to see it in chronological order?).
Yeah, you sorta do have to watch some of them in order, because as with all good series, references are made to previous episode events or characters. However, you can begin with Serenity (not to be confused with the film) as was intented by Whedon, or you can begin with Train Job (as was directed by Fox).
It's best if you can watch the episode 'Serenity' ( not the movie ) first. It was the original pilot, and was the setup to the series. The Train Job was the 2nd pilot, and would do in a pinch if you can't see Serenity first. Although you can watch them in any order after that, it's best if you can go chronological.
are Lise and I clones or what.
Right, Serenity it is then. Cheers.
