Favourite Films I've Seen in 2012

I have a list of all the films I've watched for the first time in 2012 here but it is already getting unwieldy so I'm creating this list to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Check the list view for links to my reviews for most of the films. I'll be adding to the list as the year goes along.

  • Damn. I keep meaning to finally watch Satantango, but I can never get the time.

Also, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT SAW LE QUATTRO VOLTE! I loved that film. So great.

  • Satantango is certainly a big time commitment. It is technically brilliant but it is a film I admired more than loved (hence its relatively low placing on the list).

The Four Times is indeed excellent.

  • Adam, I just watched SnowTown last night after hearing about it for quite a while. I was excited when it finally appeared on Netflix streaming. MAN -what a scuzz-fest that was! More terrifying than any horror film I've seen! The acting was spot-on, and the main actor that played the central murderer, John Bunting, was electrifying in his portrayal! At times it was too real to stomach, especially those torture scenes. I kept trying to figure out how they were done -technically speaking -while seeming so realistic. Yikes! Don't know if I'd ever want to watch it again-but I can see why it would be on your list.

  • Yep, it isn't the sort of film you'd watch again and again but it really does leave its mark. Another film on my list, Michael, is similar in that regard but even more disturbing.

  • OH yeah, I saw MICHAEL on Netflix too-MEGA Creepy! But at least it seems the boy gets away in that one. AND it's not based on a true story. Although I know there have been some cases in the news that it resembles...

  • Satantango is just so good. I recently watched it and was left spellbound. 5/5 from me. Though I respect your opinion. You seem to be a big fan of Ghibli too. Mononoke Hime is my all time favorite.

  • Satantango is undoubtedly a well made film, I just struggle to really invest in Bela Tarr's films.

You are right, I am a big fan of Ghibli. It will be a sad day when Miyazaki finally decides/is forced to retire.

  • Miyazaki fan here too Adam. And I would say I'm sensing a slow down from him too at his advanced age. P.Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, and Nausicca-are my favorites.
Oh and Bela Tar- I've tried but it left me cold.

  • I much prefer Miyazaki's earlier films. That isn't to say his later work is poor, it just misses the heart of his early career.

My Neighbour Totoro, Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso are my personal favourites.

  • Haven't seen P. Rosso. But did enjoy MNTotoro.
