Your Most Watched Film
There are some voracious film watchers on Letterboxd with diverse tastes so I thought it would be interesting to see what everybody's most watched film is.
The rules are simple: You can name only one film each (Werckmeister Harmonies might be your favourite film but if you've still watched The Care Bears Movie a thousand times you have to include it). Try and include a little write-up too and I'll make sure to edit the list view with all the entries.
Mine, believe it or not, is Batman Forever. I absolutely loved that movie as a kid, and though it has its flaws and definitely isn't my favorite Batman film, I still find a lot of enjoyment in it. I had all the toys, watched every Batman movie and cartoon I could find, and remember watching Batman Forever over and over again. We had it on VHS so I would watch it, rewind, and watch it again.
Mine would have to be Kiss of the Dragon. I must have been no more than 9 or 10 when I first watched it. And man, was it cool! I loved all the characters like the kick ass twins, Jet Li, and honestly my favorite villain of all time, played none other than Tcheky Karyo. I sometimes watch a bit of it now and then and remember how much fun I had watching it.
Aliens - fell in love with it aged 10, watched it at least once to twice a month from then till I was about 15 and then loads of times since. Easily seen it 60+ times to the point I knew every word, beat and note of the film. Still my second all-time favourite movie behind Shawshank Redemption. Cameron is a god.
Added,
Kickboxer starring Van Damme. When I was 7-8 my Dad let me watch Bloodsport and I thought it was the coolest thing ever because I was young. A few weeks later, Kickboxer was on so we recorded it for me on a VHS. I must have watched it many many times because the tape ended up not working :(
Luckily my dad got it for me on DVD so then I carried on watching it.
Later on I began watching more 'arty' or foreign films with my Dad, starting with early Besson and carrying onto this day with Godard, Bergman, Haneke. So as I drifted away from JCVD and his harmless, cheesy fighting films towards more artistically pleasing and clearly better films. it seemed I would never return to the film that probably got me interested in film. Thanks for the memories Jean-Claude and Mark DiSalle.
(I do have a copy of Bloodsport on DVD, I just hide it if my friends or girlfriend come over to watch anything. Snobbish I know but Satantango and Berlin Alexanderplatz take up enough room on my shelf!)
We watched The Princess Bride almost every weekend in college (even through grad school), so I'd say I've seen it several hundred times, more than any other, easily.
Added both to the list.
Between having to show it to multiple people who hadn't seen it in the theater, and me being sick for a good month and it popping up on Starz every day, I'm pretty sure I've watched The Prestige more than anything else. With good reason too, as it's just a great ride overall, and more than just a magic show.Maybe.
It's not in my top 20, yet I've seen it more than any of those. Just how things have fallen.
Solaris by Soderbergh for me. It's still something I watch every few months.
If my mother speaks the truth, I have literally seen The Wizard of Oz over 150 times. It was my favorite movie as a kid.
