How to direct a sequel to a legendary Kubrick movie?

You try to develop further what worked without copying the original. Sounds difficult? It surely is.

Did this movie succeed?
It most definitly builds up a very fascinating atmosphere and develops the story consequently. The atmosphere this time isn't so much about the vastness of space, but more about the secrets and questions that lie in it, and is created more via music first and visuals secondly, as vice versa in the original.

You don't have to like the ending, and I wasn't completely happy with it. But it is a really good mystery-thriller in space.
