The editing is the star of the show here. Phenomenal.

Technically accomplished, but the racial and gender issues dated this terribly for me. We're meant to sympathise for the put-upon South, with barely a nod to the realities of slavery that underpinned that world. I cringed most of the time there was an interaction with a black character, especially Prissy. The constant crying and simpering of most of the female characters who define their world around men for almost four hours was also a hard slog.

Not usually a squeamish viewer, but parts of this were very hard to watch. Makes Sleepers look like The Goonies. Brave performance from Gordon-Levitt.
