  If you are into older films, Melville is my all time favorite film maker. French or otherwise.

  Thanks, I'll check him out. I have Le Cercle Rouge on DVD. Are there any others of his films that are 'must watches'?

  That reminds me - I need to add Breathless to my list of French films I've seen.

  I have never seen a "bad" Melville film, but his best works are:
  Bob le Flambeur, Army of Shadows, and Le Samourai.
