Who knew San Francisco had its own uncanny valley just near Golden Gate Park? I wanted to love this more, but found it impossible to get past the lingering facial closeups of the apes — the fast-moving action scenes that dominate the final act nail their realism, but when things slow down it’s harder to buy into the half-baked science and characters when the visuals need more time in the oven too.
