While you can telegraph the moves a mile off, this indie crowd-pleaser is sensitively handled and lovingly crafted. The most accessible of McCarthy’s three films as director, but both Amy Ryan (his co-star in HBO’s The Wire) and Jeffrey Tambor are wasted in supporting roles.
