I hadn't watched this movie in well over 20 years. It is strange how only a few scenes stuck in my head...the dwarf peeing in the fountain, the door knockers and the creatures who could take their heads off. I am surprised I didn't remember the helping hands as they were one of the more creative creatures in the entire movie.
Labyrinth is definitely a kids movie but is pretty dark and I could see where it may scare some younger kids (same goes for The Neverending Story). I am absolutely amazed at how well the practical effects and puppets worked in this movie (the digital effects were pretty bad though). Every single character had a unique personality and every one put a smile on my face. Jim Henson truly was a genius.
I could have done without David Bowie, I think the movie would have been just as good if there were only the goblins and no human goblin king. David Bowie is really the only thing that dates this movie, his songs and his hair are both very 1980's and the bulge in his pants wasn't necessary. Other than David Bowie the movie is timeless.
I can't wait to watch this with my kids one day, so much imagination and wonder.
