  • The Last Waltz 1978

    ★★½ Watched 25 Sep, 2014

I mainly found it kind of grubby. The whole thing of it being mainly 'about' Robbie Robertson is one thing for sure (given that he has cold dead eyes, and is probably the least engaging of the lot of them), but there was something so gurningly self-congratulatory about it I found myself looking away at times. I realise the self-congratulatory element is kind of the point of the thing.

That said, there were plenty of highlights: Joni. Emmylou Harris's amazing…

  • The Woman in Black 2012

    ★★ Watched 14 Jul, 2014

Initially promising with some creepy bits, but gradually buried under a deluge of 'scares' when it was crying out for some space to expand into. Shit, shit, SHIT ending, too.

  • Red Hill 2010

    ★★ Watched 02 Jul, 2014 1

Not really very good at all. A mess of cliches that detract from the central message, which might have been a powerful one. And the panther - the panther!

  • Chronicle 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 27 May, 2014

So much talent on display and so well judged in terms of run time that it's odd how much it drags. Promising, though.

  • Solomon Kane 2009

    ★★½ Watched 23 May, 2014

Diverting enough, but destined for the same 'hangover viewing' shitheap as Van Helsing and Underworld. Nice and nasty in places but the script is awful and it has one of the worst end of level baddies ever.

  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower 2012

    ★★★★ Watched 24 Mar, 2014

This walked a fine line but it was good to see a film of this ilk actually *earn* the right to explore the themes it did.

  • Black Swan 2010

    ★★★ Watched 06 Feb, 2014

Supremely silly, but the time ah, flew by.

  • Lake Placid 1999

    ★★ Watched 07 Sep, 2013

Heh. What a load of old shit. Especially Brendon Gleeson's accent. And his fringe.

  • Scream 1996

    ★★½ Watched 27 Mar, 2013

Why do I wait so long to see films?

  • Dreams of a Life 2011

    ★★★★ Watched 28 Feb, 2013

An easy film to 'own' in many respects, as we've all known people like Joyce, and because it makes you immediately seek out those you love and hold onto them with a new kind of ferocity.

  • The Kid with a Bike 2011

    ★★★½ Watched 14 Nov, 2012

I hate ratings - I've given Rocky III 3.5 stars, too, and these might as well be on different planets.

  • Moonrise Kingdom 2012

    ★★½ Watched 20 Oct, 2012

Like most Wes Anderson stuff, this kind of wore me out. Need to see it again to be sure just how much this one exhausted me.
