Trigun: Badlands Rumble 2010 ★★★½

Watched Apr 01, 2012

The first two DVDs I purchased were 'The Abyss Special Edition' & 'Trigun The $$60,000,000,000 Man'. The latter was the first volume of an 8 volume Anime series I knew little to nothing about. The cover struck me as something I really wanted to see. The guns & the badass, red cloaked protagonist screamed "Go ahead and buy me, Matt". That night I watched The Abyss once & The Trigun disc twice in a row. Needless to say I adore the series. It was fun, silly & action-packed while at the same time thoughtful & sometimes sad.
I wanted to love Badlands Rumble. I REALLY wanted to REALLY love it. Most of the elements from the show were in place. All the characters I came to know throughout the course of the show were present. The setting, great design, action & humor were all there. Something however, was missing. It took me a while to realize what it was. It's missing the heart. Weird thing to say about an animated action/comedy/sci-fi/western I know, but the show had a joyous, warmhearted feeling that is missing from this film. It's a fun movie. The art & animation is nice. The story is quick, entertaining & I had a great time watching it, but I wanted a 5 star Trigun movie, I got a 3 Star one. (The extra 1/2 star is BECAUSE IT'S TRIGUN!). Perhaps I was expecting too much. I've been known to do that.
