Eech. Wanted to love it. Really I did. I chuckled at the comedy pieces, but it was the kind of chuckle I did when my dad makes a joke. I gasped at the action pieces, but it was the kind of gasp I make when I get up a bit too quickly. I 'awwww'd' at the romantic moments, but it was similar to the aww I make when I see a dead deer at the side of the road.

In the same vein as the first Pirates of the Caribbean, this is a pretty fun film as long as you come to expecting a bit nonsense.

While Depp alters the Captain Sparrow acting method to go full Tonto, Armie Hammer makes a strong upstanding straight man. Much was said about how ir reduced the character of the Ranger to a bumbling buffoon instead of the steadfast law man, but that argument doesn't really stand here in the UK as…

Plenty of films made me want to be an astronaut when I was young, this is the first one that really made me think 'nah, thats no for me thanks'.
Managing to hold the attention with only one actor for the majority of the film is no mean feat, but by keeping the tension high and jeopardy always around the corner it manages just that. If anything the consistent tension and high incident rate started to make me think 'hold…

Baaaa ba ba da ba, baa ba baaa, baaaa ba ba ba da, dah de dah.

That's one think you won't hear in Man of Steel. One think you will hear is BOOOOM another is BAAAAAAANG. You will not hear 'My god how many people have just been killed in metropolis, oh the humanity.

But to be honest that doesn't matter, it's Superman after all.

The grand scale of Krypton and space, the huge final fight that seems to go…

This gave me exactly what I wanted from a film about GIANT robots versus GIANT monster.

There have been complaints that it's a nonsense film with no substance, if that's the case then that is fine by me. Some films should just be watched for their entertainment value and this is one of them. At what point it was the closest i've come to shouting 'yaaaaaaaaasss' outloud in the cinema.

Effects are up to scratch, the monsters (Kaiju in the…

I like Brad Pitt. I can't help myself. He's willing to play against the pretty boy tag that others are so keen to give him. And this film works to that.

A failed baseball player who became a scout who became a manager who dares to try something new to take his team to the top. No car chases, talk about formulas and tables. Just as well its a captivating story.

A quality kids film is a hard thing to pull off, it needs to entertain the kids but also keep the parents happy. To pull this off once is impressive but to manage it twice takes skill on all counts.

Gru is still as comical as ever and now with added love interest. The real stars as with the first film though are the minions this time with a Mr Hyde like alter ego.

See it with kids, see it on your own, which ever you do know that you will have a good time seeing it.

Give me black and white, practical effects and the Universal old school logo and i'm a happy watcher.

Compare it to the 90s redo and it just has that 'feel' its a slow burn, there's no unnecessary score to sign post emotions and of course no CGI, just good old fashioned practical effects work. Get it watched.

Better than Iron Man 2 not as good as Iron Man. A diversifying twist. And of course Robert Downey Jr.

I wanted to love this more, really I did.

The actors are a great match for the characters. The effects are spot on. But...........

It's an exercise in green moviemaking, they have recycled about as much as they ever could (aiming for no spoilers here). They have lifted some parts wholesale, whilst others they have taken and given a little flip around.

Again I wanted to love it, I can just about like it but mainly I came away thinking...... what a shame.
