Letterboxd — Your life in film

I wouldn't have seen this movie if I hadn't been for someone who wanted to see it ;) ... I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Obviously it is a Baz Luhrmann movie (cheesy, broad, lots of effects) but I was relieved that none of the characters burst out into song. I know there are some who hate the "Jay G. to Jay-Z" production, but as a fan of both I enjoyed this. I liked the main soundtrack song "Young and Beautiful" (Lana Del Ray) before I saw the movie, and it does fit the film well, as a score (in different instrumentation and tempos) for Jay and Daisy.
My favourite scene in the novel is the hotel scene, and I have to say I did not expect it to be as true to the book as it was. There are really funny parts of this movie, intentional and otherwise. I went in expecting a music video version of Gatsby and it pretty much delivered that in an enjoyable way.
