90's Teen Films (& Trainspotting)
I went to high school in the mid 1990's. These movies were my "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" or "Breakfast Club". (To be specific: films which I have seen, about young people that were released mostly in '95 or '96 or '99)
I realize it came toward the end of the decade, but any thoughts on "Can't Hardly Wait?"
Dazed and Confused sure, but Trainspotting? How is that a teen film?
@Travis Seth Green portrays an awesome 90's teen in that one. It is plain to see that my list is biased towards 95/96.
@amberfool I know it is big a stretch to include Trainspotting on a list called "90's Teen Films". I just had to include it since it was a movie that I really liked when I was a teen in the 90's. The soundtrack was also everywhere during this time. In my flimsy defense, Kelly Macdonald's Diane was a teen.
I don't consider Trainspotting a 90s teen film either because it's really more of a heroin drama that features characters in their 20s. What about the films of Gregg Araki like Totally Fucked Up, The Doom Generation, and Nowhere? Pump Up the Volume by the guy who did the very overrated and whiny Empire Records?
@Steven Yes, we all agree that Trainspotting is not a "90's Teen Film", yet there it is. My list, my (nonsensical) rules. I haven't seen any of Araki's Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy, thanks for the suggestions. Pump Up the Volume was ahead of my personal, actual teen years. Whiny cheese is what this list is all about ;)
How about Hackers?
@Amberfool Added! Thanks for the suggestion.
I graduated in '96, but I watched Pump Up the Volume and Heathers nonstop.
@Jeff Heathers is a classic.
Dazed and Confused, Can't Hardly Wait, and Empire Records were my "go-to"s.
@Travis & @Jordan Can't Hardly Wait added. Thank you for your comments.
Here's another one, although it may fall outside the mid-90s criteria: 1999's "Dick."
@Travis Added.
