The only interesting thing about the thoroughly routine Contraband is that it was directed by Icelandic film-maker Baltasar Kormákur, whose earlier films include the compelling Jar City. This is further proof that Mark Wahlberg cannot carry a film. Kate Beckinsale is wasted in the underwritten role of Wahlberg's wife. Giovanni Ribisi steals the show as scumbag smuggler Tim Briggs.
