Leon: The Professional 1994
For a short while, back in the early 90s, I think Léon was my favourite film of all time. I still think it's really rather splendid, too.
As I've mentioned before about some films that I love, there are some where you can well imagine why they might get on the tits of some people. Léon is definitely one of those films. It is an absolutely bonkers and sometimes completely unbelievable action and crime thriller with a central relationship that…

Take Shelter 2011
There are these movies...
that drag you in for the next two hours and you do not feel the time passing by. When they finish you have to take a deep breath and you realise you have been holding it the whole time. I cannot, and to be honest I do not want to put this movie in too many words, I only highly recommend watching it. It is one of the movies I have zero tolerance for not liking them. Jumped my personal top five. -

Take Shelter 2011
You think I'm crazy? Well, listen up, there's a storm coming like nothing you've ever seen, and not a one of you is prepared for it.

The entire cast is great here, especially Jessica Chastain, but Shannon steals the show with one of the…

Stranded 2001
MY CALL: Mars has a secret, but it may not be worth the suffering through this film to get to it. [C-/D] WHAT TO WATCH INSTEAD: Mission to Mars (2000), Red Planet (2000). IF YOU LIKE THIS, WATCH: Moon (2009), Sunshine (2007), Alien (1979), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

Take Shelter 2011
Take Shelter is a film of rare power and beauty and one that I really wish I had experienced on the big screen. Like the work of Terrence Malick this Jeff Nichols’ sophomore effort is not easy to convey in text as the film is about the feelings that it evokes and it demands to be experienced first hand. Few films have made me quite so tense and sweaty palmed as this. From the opening few minutes there is an…
