Cruise sings...and it's actually ok!
Ok so this isn't a guns and roses rock tribute movie, far from it, it's a musical of almost the high school kind, in fact there are parts of what I would imagine glee to be like, had I ever watched glee...which I haven't, and I already decided I hate glee!
So why watch it?
Well if for no other reason...Cruise rocks! The lucky son of bitch gets to live out the boyhood rock fantasy of testosterone fuelled rock frenzy, and pulls it off with aplomb. Dressed virtually the entire movie in a axel rose bandana and leather strides and a cool jacket he rolls around set with girls and "heyman" the baboon!
The plot is predictable and very soft rock, but the soundtrack is super soft rock cool with def leppard, guns n roses, twisted sister, foreigner and starship all making an appearance ...and they are well chosen...with cruise smashing it out the park for the big stage productions.
Baldwin and brand manage to carry off a credible rock double act, with mildly amusing interplay between the two. And zeta jones delivers a funny performance, and is clearly the only real 'a' lister that's comfortable with a singing part.
It's genuinely worth a watch, I've actually seen it twice now and although I would have liked to see them end with an Alice Cooper classic as opposed to the predictable journey glee claptrap I still think I'm going to have a soft spot for this soft rock musical for years to come.
Sounds like a Swindon FC review to me.....
It's Swindon town fc act-woah-lee
Is that a premiership team??
