Sure, it's derivative, but its brooding, moody atmosphere punctuated by bursts of brutal violence and its distinct lack of typical hollywood over-baked sensationalism feel make for compelling viewing.

Remember the buzz and hype that was swirling around this film before it was released? Remember how that buzz was generated based solely on the name—SNAKES ON A PLANE—and the absurdity that it promised? Remember how the fact Samuel L. Jackson was involved also provided weight and credibility to the hype, too?

Yeah, that buzz was the best thing about the movie.
