The Ides of March 2011 ★★★

An intriguing first half gives way to cliche and generic thriller conventions which is a shame as there is much to like here: especially Hoffman and Giamatti's turns as veteran masters of the black political arts. Clooney cleverly plays with his loved public image, but the whole thing feels underwhelming. Ultimately little here that wasn't handled much better in The West Wing.
