John Carpenter's debut has shades of 2001, and it's obvious where co-writer/co-star Dan O'Bannon got some inspiration for his Alien script a few years later. But Dark Star has a weird flavour all its own - a trippy, hippy sci-fi comedy with talking bombs, beachball aliens, hilarious, wacked out dialogue and loads of great directorial touches all realised on a tiny budget.
