The Avengers - Marvel Cinematic Universe

This collection lists (in approximate movie timeline order) all the Marvel Studios films that lead up to, and spin off from, the multi-character Superhero epic 'The Avengers' aka 'Avengers Assemble'.

Marvel have gained the rights back to Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor and Ant-Man. These characters were the classic line-up of The Avengers.

This list shows how the individual movies reference each other and establish that these characters all live in the same shared universe, before leading up to the crossover in 'The Avengers'...

This list works on the assumption you have seen all the MCU films up to and including Guardians of the Galaxy, all the One-Shots up to and including All Hail The King, and the TV show Agent's of SHIELD (Series 1).

Film events in order;

"You think you're the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you've become part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet. I'm here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative."

  • I can live with a new actor & no origin. That's fine. We just can't have a third origin tale. TASM did that perfectly fine.

  • Won't be an origin if he's appearing in Civil War before his solo film. But there's still talk of Sinister Six happening so they could be the villains for the 2017 film...

  • It seems that Andrew Garfield was offered to continue in the role of Spider-Man AND Sony will be going ahead with the Sinister Six, Venom and 'Female-Led' spin off films. I'm confused as to what this means.

Are the ASM films being fully rebooted for 2017 or is it a soft reboot?

And the spin-offs would have to be considered part of the MCU.

  • I don't understand neither. Is Andrew Garfield going to be in MCU??
And why the hell Sony wants to continue all these spin off films???

  • Garfield turned it down so will not be in the MCU, but that does suggest there will be some sort of continuation, as does continuing with the planned Sinister Six film.

Apparently Sony don't get money from the Marvel films with Spider-Man in them but Marvel don't get money from the SM spin-offs. Therefore Sony hope the MCU creates buzz about SM and then people go and watch their spin-off films...

  • My guess with Sinister Six is that it'll be retooled so it doesn't follow on from TASM2. Given how awful Paul Giamatti was as Rhino, I can live with that!

And let's face it, people will always go see a Spidey film. Sony will make money. They just know they'll make even more if the films get critical buzz & that's more likely to happen under the MCU.

  • ...which would be a shame as the 'Oscorp creating the bad guys' plotline was one of the most intriguing ideas in ASM1&2

  • I love this list, If they do a new cast for Spider-man and Peter Parker is first I really want Logan Lerman. But until then I've got plenty of Marvel movies to look forward too.

  • Thanks, plus the Sony Spider-Man spin-offs will be part of the MCU

  • So I'm thinking we will maybe have an Earth based Civil War storyline continuing through the Ant-Man, Cap3, Spider-Man, and Black Panther films.

At the same time the cosmic part of the Infinity Guantlet storyline will be taking place in GotG2, Thor3, and Infinity War Part 1.

The Dr Strange film will straddle both the cosmic and earth realms and bring 'magic' into the MCU, before Captain Marvel truly unites both storylines and everyone gangs up against Thanos in Infinity War Part 2.
