The Avengers - Marvel Cinematic Universe

This collection lists (in approximate movie timeline order) all the Marvel Studios films that lead up to, and spin off from, the multi-character Superhero epic 'The Avengers' aka 'Avengers Assemble'.

Marvel have gained the rights back to Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor and Ant-Man. These characters were the classic line-up of The Avengers.

This list shows how the individual movies reference each other and establish that these characters all live in the same shared universe, before leading up to the crossover in 'The Avengers'...

This list works on the assumption you have seen all the MCU films up to and including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, all the One-Shots up to and including All Hail The King, and the TV show Agent's of SHIELD (Series 1).
(THERE ARE THEREFORE POTENTIAL SPOILERS!).

  • Looks like the Agent Carter TV Show, and Agents of SHIELD season 2 have both been given the go ahead;

    A TV series that would be set one year after 'The First Avenger' in 1946 (and before the One-Shot). It will follow Peggy's career as she works for the Strategic Scientific Reserve. It's said that Howard Stark will feature. It's also reported that Agent Carter will be a "short order" series, designed to fill the gap between Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D's first and second seasons, and with a story that will somehow intertwine between the two.

  • Updated with SHIELD episode 20, Guardians of the Galaxy, Man-Thing...

  • You have been doing a very nice work here. I've seen season finale of Agents Of SHIELD and it has new surprises regarding the SHIELD status... you will appreciate it like me.

    oh... i was another one who noticed when they dropped the name "man-thing". I think that Marvel is creating some background for him, has we can notice man-thing wife on Iron Man 3, the research with plants and flowers theme on Iron Man 3, and now the tv show saying loud and clear the name Man-Thing... it's those kind of things that we all feel rewarded. Like the Sr.Strange reference in Captain America 2... :-)

  • @Paulo We are a couple of weeks behind with AoS in the UK but looking forward to getting up to date. Also, looking forward to finding out what the next one-Shot will be when The Winter Soldier is released on DVD/Blu Ray.

    That's a good point about the plants in Iron Man 3 (along with his wife). I guess his origin has already happened in the MCU so maybe he will turn up in the next series of Agents of SHIELD?

  • Updated with final episodes of Agents of SHIELD series 1.

    Shame they are not releasing a One-Shot with the Cap2 Blu-Ray.

  • Scott Derrickson to direct Dr. Strange

  • Added info from the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' prelude comic.

  • Added Cap3
