As I was sitting in front of my computer this afternoon I realised I was probably the last person on earth not to have seen the latest Bond instalment. My knowledge and appreciation of the classic Bond films may be minimal, but I must admit I'm a fan of the Daniel Craig vehicle. That said, Casino Royale was the better of the two thus far. • Lola Versus 2012

    Watched 23 May, 2013

What a terrible movie. Lola Versus begins as a contemporary romantic comedy and turns into a cinematic soap-opera. The only source of conflict between the group of friends that this film centres on is when they destroy their own friendships by sleeping around with each other, which is not only lazy writing but a big "fuck you" to the audience. It is almost impossible to sympathise with these awfully promiscuous and almost vacuous characters, making it a very hard watch. Maturity here is nonexistent.

  • Looper 2012

The last decade has seen a rise in trend for commercial sci-fi thrillers, most of which aren't just big-budget, but well written pieces of cinema. Inception led the way, but Rian Johnson's latest film Looper joins this club by not only knocking our socks off but knocking us out altogether. Looper is a cleverly and meticulously crafted film.

In the future, time travel is a very real yet very illegal activity. It is only used by the highest criminal organisations.…
