I really wanted to like this. Cronenberg, Mortensen, Fassbender. It seemed like a winning formula, but it wasn't. It's an interesting enough subject, the acting, the sets, the costumes are spot on, but the characters just talk and talk and argue and talk and it goes on and on... A really funny movie! Fantastic performances from Franco and McBride and amazing, realistic set and costume design. This one will go down in history as one of the best. Our children will look back and say, "Wow, our parents really liked fart jokes."

And yet, "A Serious Man" stands out, to me, as something absolutely masterful, above and beyond "True Grit" and "No Country for Old Men". Maybe even "Fargo", but that requires a way longer discussion. I may be…
