Game of Death 1979

Rewatched Apr 13, 2012

This Game of Death is a film built around 12 minutes of original footage that Bruce Lee had done for his own movie with the same title. The scenes they filmed to complete the movie were done 5 years after Lee's death and they also used some footage from some of his older films as well. They even use footage from his actual funeral... I kid you not.

If you actually consider this a Bruce Lee Film then it's his worst one by far, but if you consider this a Bruceploitation Film (which you should) then it's the most famous one. It's almost worth watching just for the 12 minutes of real Bruce Lee footage that was shot for the real Game of Death. That footage contains energy that is lacking in every other second of this movie. The original plot for Game of Death is no where to be seen in here.

The Bruce Lee Stand-ins used in this film would only fool people that think all Chinese men look a like. A truly awful film that contains 12 minutes of footage that is some of the best Bruce Lee had ever filmed.

If you really want to see this footage you should watch Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey instead. It puts together the surviving footage in it's entirety which is basically the end of the Game of Death that Lee was trying to make and it's 34 minutes long instead of 12.
