Cleanse them. Cleanse the world of their ignorance and sin. Bathe them in the crimson of... am I on speakerphone?

Even though I enjoyed this even more on my second viewing, I'm extremely happy that my first viewing was on opening night before this movie was overhyped into the stratosphere. This film is not a "game changer", it's not the second coming of Michael Myers and it certainly did not reinvent the genre. I am not surprised that people are watching this today and are disappointed by it because it's not meeting their expectations that were overblown by various reviews.

What the movie did do was remind a lot of people that horror movies can be fun. Personally I didn't remember the last time I saw a horror movie in theaters that I would describe as fun, I've seen plenty that take themselves too seriously though. I also think that's the best way to describe this movie: F-U-N.

Everyone was also told to avoid spoilers and to see the movie with as little information as possible. I think this also gave the wrong impression to a lot of people. I agree with that though, that if you haven't seen this yet try to watch it with as little info as possible. The reason being that it adds to the enjoyment of the movie and not because the twist or twists in the film are anything earth shattering. You're not going to find out one of the main characters was dead the whole time, or that the villain was the heroes father, or even that the hot chick is actually a dude. The twists and turns are simple plot devices that poke fun at the various horror tropes the genre has created for itself over the years. Nothing more, nothing less.

While it does play with various aspects of the horror film as we know them, it also pays homage to an incredible amount of those movies as well. Some are incredibly obvious, while others are a lot more subtle. There's a few I only spotted on my second viewing, and I'm willing to bet there's still a few I didn't notice. I know that casual viewers will still enjoy this movie a great deal, but horror fans should find tons to enjoy here. It is a game changer* after all.

The most fun I've had watching a horror movie at the theater in ages. If you're interested in seeing this movie then don't watch the trailers, don't read the plot synopsis, don't check the cast listing, don't even look at the movie poster... LOOK AWAY!
