Initially when I heard of this, I thought it was a dumb idea. But when I put it on to watch, I momentarily thought it was going to work. Half an hour later, it started to really fall apart.
It tried to take on too many plot threads and none of it came together. Humour was uneven, and the satire had some clever moments but was too on the nose. To me, it seemed as if when they started writing it, they just wanted to write a campy B-Movie. But partway through, they felt compelled to make it a hard-hitting satire and went in way over their heads.
They were also in over their heads with the CG sets and VFX. With its budget, it should have avoided the FX heavy space combat. Relied too much on VFX and in many portions they were weak.
