This is more like it. Five years passed between RETURN OF GODZILLA and this flick, and it feels like they got together the "fun committee" (as Greg David puts it), watched the previous movies and realised how fun these movies can be - and how insane.

I mean, this movie packs in some great solo Godzilla action (okay that sounds really inappropriate), social commentary on biotech, the old Frankenstein-esque mad scientist and should-we-shouldn't-we creation themes, and the alliances with certain…

I'm torn on this one. I like it because it tries to be serious, and because it tries to capture the sensibility of the original - but on the other hand, it probably shouldn't try, and also if you're trying to be serious you need better effects for your giant mutant sea louse.

This is the thing, they seem to have mistaken serious for boring. It has a decent buildup, and I always like the mystery scenes where they figure…

It's not massively surprising that few people seem to have seen this regarding the subject material, but it's a surprisingly good - and expectedly harsh film. Ferrara has always been great at walking the tightrope between grindhouse trash and socially provocative art, and this is is no different. It's a gutpunch for sure, and has a sense of unflinching realism at times that sets it apart from similar genre films.

    Also, killer trumpet solo.

Mental. I've been meaning to see this flick for decades ever since seeing a picture of the titular character in an old horror films book so it's a bit annoying that I've only just come to see it, and that it's so much fun. Great songs, hilarious, Jessica Harper is luminous, and De Palma's direction is, well, very De Palma. Loved it.

Ridiculous and overlong, but I still love Roger's 007.

Ok, so Quitters, Inc and The Ledge are cool, but neither of them feature A CAT FIGHTING A TROLL. WITH A JESTER'S HAT.

Amazing experience seeing it in the cinema - Really shows how impressive Carpenter and Cundy's visual work is.

The new blu. The transfer is so good you can see Arnie's wang waving in the wind as he goes to beat up the punks in the beginning.

Surprisingly touching and emotionally fulfilling. Also, cool gunfights and a satisfying neo-western edge.

    Comedy tombstones FTW. Also, Gamera!

I find the reviews this film has garnered either the product of diseased minds or a damning indictment on the current standard of Hollywood horror. Lazy crap.
