There is a lot I love about Blade:
+Snipes is simply excellent in the role.
+Stephen Dorff is a great villain in Deacon Frost.
+Kris Kristofferson is great support as Whistler (who should of stayed dead and never had a daughter).
+Donal Logue as Quinn the thick as shit vampire always losing a limb.
+Pearl the ugly obese record keeper who gets rather harshly tortured.
+It has a very good balance of showing the evil guys, not just from Blades perspective.
+Great lines of dialogue/exchanges.
+A great opening scene in a slaughter house (though a few of the extras could of done with some more vampire lessons).
+ Arly Jover as Mercury, Deacons other sidekick (It actually serves that she has hardly any dialogue).
+I like the sped up moments and the feel to the world in which Blade is set.
+Udo Kier does an ok job as Dragonetti (which I only just discovered was his name, always thinking he was called Dragon Eddie).
+Deacon Frost flings a child in front of moving traffic!
+People/Vampires exploding.
Some things that niggle me about Blade:
- The members of The Shadow Council are pretty weakly portrayed and actually look non-descript, these vampires are suppose to be pure blood, so surely a bit more bad ass please? Or at least be a bit more memorable.
-Frost's plan to become a blood god is a good plot device, but his overall intention seems to be to make everybody a vampire? Or did I miss something.
-The twist with Blade's mother is a good one, though again the character is quite weak, but that may be because she is introduced late.
-Dr. Karen Jenson is more than mildly annoying.
-Blade is guilty of multi-gooning, faceless foes coming at him en masse just to show Blade's tough. Yah, you can do this, just do not make them faceless stunt people, give them individual looks for christ sake! (something that also happens in the sequels).
I love Blade to bits. I think the sequel is a good follow up, but unlike some I do not hold it higher than the original. The third has very few things I like about it and it was a sorry way to bow out. As the films went on they seemed to over complicate matters losing elements that made Blade what it is. Specifically the third 'I know lets give Blade a scooby gang!'.
Blade: Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice-skate uphill.
That line is one of the best EVER! Love Blade, and I know what you mean about the other 2.
The soundtrack is pretty amazing as well, the bloodbath scene is awesome!
Yah-huh, definitely. Can watch Blade over and over, never gets boring for me.
