Mud 2013
What a wonderful surprise! Not that I'm surprised in the slightest by how good 'Mud' was; its writer/director Jeff Nichols' previous film, 'Take Shelter,' was my favorite movie of 2011. Undefeated 2011
Amazingly effective film. Perfect pacing and score. I wish we could've spent a little more time with some of the other players on the team, but it's still extremely well done. As many people have said, it's basically a real life Friday Night Lights during the East Dillon years, which is to say it's some truly inspiring people making the most of some seriously heavy life situations plus football. And it's great.

It's insane that this picture was made when it was. '68?!? There's a dancing swastika! Wilder's INSANE, in a way that literally nobody else could possibly be. What a beautiful thing comedy can be. Wonderful.

Melancholia is a spellbinding experience: gorgeously photographed, deliberately slow, haunting and lingering long after the final credits.
