Letterboxd — Your life in film

Visually sumptuous and well acted adaptation of Rushdie's novel. A bit overlong and suffers a little from the need to include every little thing and be as true and literal to the source material as possible. But overall a decent and thoroughly engaging drama.

A visually sumptuous and worthy adaptation of Tolstoy's novel. Johnson is a little miscast and of course it doesn't capture the majesty of the novel, but this is still worthy if you enjoy this sort of thing.

A thrill ride from start to finish, if a little confusing in places, this is always entertaining and continues a great trend of fantastic thrilling narrative storytelling coming out of Scandinavia.

If you're not with this franchise by now then this won't change anything. The story is still ridiculous, the writing is super melodramatic, the acting is poo but yet there is still some tiny small amount of fun to be had before the absolute cop out ending which just seems to be put in place to have every single character get exactly what they want with very little struggle or strife. Thank God it's over and let's hope it's a while before this franchise gets the reboot treatment.

If it ain't broke don't fix it, which is exactly what Abrams and crew do with his second installment in his rebooted Trek franchise. Slightly flawed but any flaws are glossed over as this is perfectly blistering summer blockbuster entertainment. Terrific stuff, with Cumberbatch making for one fine villain.

I seriously do not understand the fan love behind this movie. This should've been a hilarious black comedy. This should've actually have been funny.

A couple of amusing sight gags aside this is unfunny and annoying.

Surprised I managed to give this horrible characters five minutes let alone an hour and a half.

A fun and visually inventive animated movie that is just too ordinary to be anything truly special.

A fun concept butchered by a terrifyingly awful script and by ridiculous direction. Somewhere buried underneath is the semblance of a fun movie but unfortunately it flatlines before it manages to get anywhere.

A surprisingly emotionally charged and powerful film about mothers and daughters, told through a series of stories of each of the main characters and how those stories have affected the lives of their daughters. Powerful stuff.
