Leviathan 2013
A stunningly shot experimental Documentary on the process of commercial fishing. While watching at times I couldn't stop attempting to figure out how they were able to get some of these shots. The cameras presumably small and mounted are seemly everywhere and nowhere which at times can be a little disorienting but some of images it produces will be with me for a long time. Don't go into the film expecting some grand narrative the film connective tissue is in…

Requiem 2006
This film has really lingered with me, it's a haunting film about discovering one's self outside the social frameworks of family and religion. I connected with the characters and felt a level of fear & empathy I don't often feel in film today. Sandra Hüller gives a wonderful lead performance that displays a sense of restraint you don't often see in young actresses. Her performance along with great writing and solid photography make this film truly a hidden gem.

Morvern Callar 2002
Visually interesting film but with characters and a story I really had trouble connecting with. Samantha Morton is great as usual but her character borders on being unlikeable. The film has a promising start with tragic event that serves as the catalyst for the narrative. The director Lynne Ramsey really pulls no punches in setting tone and showing the Morton’s character Morvern's cornered psyche. Unfortunately after that we aren’t given much context or character development which makes what came next in the plot confusing and at times frustrating. In the end I enjoyed the film but was too often left cold and disconnected.
