A gripping thriller in which Luis Tosar yet again excels.

Mountaintop Motel Massacre 1986

★½

Made in 1983 but not released until three years later, this missed the slasher boom and frankly wasn't worth the wait. Pedestrian, little gore, devoid of tension/t&a and painfully long even at 95 minutes.

Dredd 2012

★★★½

A decent, no holds barred exploitation film adaptation of the gritty 2000 AD comic character. No classic, but in a world where so much guff manages to make a tonne of money this deserved more success.

Tabloid 2011

The fascinating and bizarre story of the ex-beauty queen and the mormon in the 1970's. Really does fall into the category of "you couldn't make it up" although you do wonder how much of what Joyce says is truth and how much is fantasy...

Neither the masterpiece nor the disaster claimed by many. The final part of Nolan's trilogy is mostly enjoyable if a little messy and overblown.

What you'll make of this faux documentary will depend on which way you approach it. If it was supposed to convince the viewer it was real, then it can't be considered a success. If it was just an experiment, it certainly is different if a little over-long and self-indulgent.

More of the same. Not great but a perfectly watchable sequel.

The Boogeyman 1980

★★

One of the earlier entries in what was to become an avalanche of slashers in the early 1980s and equally as unimpressive as most of them. Whilst the supernatural angle makes it a little different, it's poorly acted and shoddily made. Even John Carradine can't save this one. Nice electro-synth score, though.

An informative and reasonably balanced look at the evolution in film-making and transition from celluloid to digital.
