Django Unchained 2012
Never a dull moment in a Tarantino movie. Scene after scene in a good pace packed with story development and character exploration made this almost 3 hour movie fly past. The alternate world feel his movies have is not missing here either. The combination of historically accurate with a Tarantino twist works well in this western setting.
The big discussion that has been going on about this plot hole in the form of the convoluted plan Schultz devised to rescue…

The Avengers 2012
A very entertaining superhero movie that doesn't waste time introducing the heroes. They just give the basic setup for the storyline and go for it, straight for the action with a mixture of superheroes destroying everything to prevent the bad guys destroying even more. Who needs a story when you can just watch all those superheroes wreck havoc. Good fun.

Skyfall 2012
Starting with a cliffhanger opening scene that switches to an impressive title sequence, this film follows a more raw and realistic approach than the last two movies with Craig as Bond. This one in particular focuses more on the story and the action. It's not dwelling on the love scenes and skips on elaborate imaginative fancy gadgets. I liked the aging theme in this film like nods to the past and giving a Bond that is showing his age. It…

Looper 2012
This film felt refreshing. It took a great concept and kept it great. I liked the near future world that was portrayed, it was convincing. The acting was solid. The pacing was a bit off at times and making Joseph Gordon-Levitt look like a younger Bruce Willis was more distracting than it was convincing me of Bruce. Still, this one I was excited to see and was not disappointed.

Argo 2012
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012
I specifically went to a cinema that showed the 48 fps version to see what the commotion was about. I went in watching the first hour from a technical point of view, what does it do for action and scenes and panning shots? How does it affect the close up shots? I was very much pleased with the smooth panning shots, something that is almost annoyingly stuttering in regular 24 fps movies. Fast scenes benefit from this higher frame rate…

Prometheus 2012
Great in visuals and details, less so in unexplored themes and stereotype characters.

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
Something in this movie feels off. It all seems perfectly normal but then again it doesn't. It may well be a different world on that small island. Very charming in a quirky way. Portrayed in a way like you might imagine your own adventures. Yes, I enjoyed this quite a bit.

The Hunger Games 2012
Give the people bread and games. The title suggests more of a starving game than a fight to the death to keep the masses entertained and contained. Even with an hour long build up to the actual title is not really explained. Eventually it will get clear that the people are poor and hungry and the winner will get food and riches. Despite the length of the movie, the psychological games the tributes deal with, forming alliances, dealing with trust…

Wreck-It Ralph 2012
The gamer in me was attracted to this movie and it started out good by setting the world in the arcade with the central hub as their central station where they can all hang out and visit other games. It's got loads of game cameos and little game related jokes. Unfortunately the character of the movie changes when Ralph enters Sugar Rush, it becomes something else. I find it hard to describe what it missing. I wanted to like this…

Jurassic Park 1993
The recent 3D version gave me a nice opportunity to view it as an adult on the big screen. Having seen it as a kid I was curious to see if it was as amazing as I remembered. And it was. It is hard to describe a real classic like this. Amazing realistic dinosaurs and an adventurous story. A really great movie experience.

Hugo 2011
Visually a gorgeous film , but the story didn't draw me in. Mostly because of the unconvincing acting and flat characters. Ali G as the inspector didn't fit in right either. The movie may be titled Hugo, but it felt like it was more about Georges Méliès after all. Not as magically adventurous as I'd hoped.
