Robert Redford recently announced his retirement from acting. To choose one favorite performance of his is impossible. For so many film-goers from the 60's until now, he has been a formidable presence to say the least. His earnestness and magnetism on both sides of the camera have earned him easy status as film legend.

To choose one as a favorite for me is impossible, but this is one I enjoy immensely and is my first memory of him in anything. It's a story told and performed (by an astounding supporting cast) with wit and character, expertly directed by Phil Alden Robinson by a script he helped co-write. It's themes of the dangers of technology are more prescient than ever, and it stands as an excellent example of Hollywood film-making.
