It's impossible to imagine this movie being made today - and not just because Fred Gwynne is dead (RIP). My Cousin Vinny is a big-hearted, foul-mouthed Joe Pesci vehicle that cleaned up at the box office, won Marisa Tomei an Oscar, and lives on in superstore DVD bargain bins to this day because Jonathan Lynn takes the time to build a solid foundation. As an inveterate Law & Order junkie I can say with some authority that the courtroom scenes aren't exactly "accurate," but the laughs are big, real, and earned. This could've been Jimmy Hollywood but it's closer to Jimmy Stewart.
