paul’s review:
Comedy really is so subjective. I read a review yesterday saying this was better than Bruno (and why), this raised a red flag immediately as I knew I was going to have the opposite reaction. And I did.
There's not been too many comedies this year, i watched The Sitter and 21 Jump Street, and neither gave me a single laugh. This I laughed hysterically, multiple times.
Who didn't laugh though. The teenagers only laughed at the dick and shit gags. They had no idea who daffy duck was, let alone anything relating to the 1972 Munich Olympic Massacre. I loved that there were jokes for me, it was like, "fuck you and your pie fucker" it's my turn to laugh. Though on occasion, knowing that the audience are idiots they do labour the point, or worse, explain the gag in that hateful three stage motion. Gag - litlle bit more explanation in case you didn't get it - explain it fully for the teenager with his mouth open catching flies.
It is very offensive, to everybody. Racism, paedo gags, rape, pissing and shitting on people, terrorism, pregnancy.... everything is up for grabs.
Heres the problem. Depending on which side of the Bruno fence you are on, will dictate what you get from this.
A very light 4 stars, only as i dont hit the like button for anything less, and i did 'like' this.
I didn't laugh very much, especially compared to the teens in my audience. Weird how humour plays differently across different cultures. The thing that had me in hysterics is when John C. Reiley calls the film Ayvatar.
