Django Unchained 2012
A magnificent romp, splatter fuelled violence tempered with wonderfully playful dialogue. Fine, fine work from Tarantino.
For fans of German dentists.

The Avengers 2012
Firstly, a small victory against against noisy, inconsiderate cinema goers. Party of four sat next to us, the fat guy next to me, took his top off. Yes, took his fucking shirt off. Then they started talking, passing popcorn to each other, made seven toilet trips between them....SEVEN !!! We weren't even an hour in. Slurp, chomp, rustle, talk, up, down.... I lent over, said something i probably shouldn't, fat guy stood up, announced he was going to be sick,…

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
The British multiplex is simply not equipped for a 3 hour sitting, watching the crowd literally hobble out of the auditorium at the end was quite something, me included.
Still, at least there was a 5 star movie to watch, why else would nerds who haven't seen it be threatening to kill critics who dared not to like it?
I didn't like it.
My issue is, i don't give a toss about any of the characters, they are so one…

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012
An unexpected journey indeed, as the things i thought i'd hate, ended up being the most interesting, and vice versa.
The action and CGI in this i found really awful, in fast scenes it was just a 3D juddery blur (maybe you NEED to see it in 48 FPS?), whereas the story and dialogue i found quite chamring and engaging, even if there is (as will be pointed out to death, too much of it)
So what you have is…

Prometheus 2012
It's cold outside, there's no kind of atmosphere.....we're all alone more or less.......
I thought Theron was good as Rimmer, but the rubber octopus was ropey even by Red Dwarf standards. Fassbender was shit as Kryten.

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
Im warming to Wes Anderson....slowly... his last three films, i've actually managed to see through to the end.
Quirky, chamring and pretty. But i'm still not a 'fan'

The Cabin in the Woods 2012
Even though i went into this relatively blind (i had seen the trailer a month ago, that's about it), the hype machine still caught hold of me. Really, really wanted to like this.
No really, i just wanted to sit back and be entertained.....
Theres a cabin, in the woods, and there's some teens. And then you wait, and wait...and wait...... i did nod off very briefly, fidgeted like crazy, got a numb arse, checked the football scores...... usual signs…

Zero Dark Thirty 2012
Really liked this, but it does gety a bit hammy, and one of the characters does that, "I'll bring you one back" speech that immedidaltey marks them as dead, wasnt sure if that was eye rollingly bad or intentional to create tension before the event, either way, i found it really jarring in what is trying present itself as an historical drama.
Way less GI Joe stuff than i was expecting, which is no bad thing. It's engaging and well made, but ultimately, it's a fluff piece.
