Iris’s review:
I watched this at the Scandinavian screening premiere, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable cinema experience.
I must say I was blown away by what they have achieved with this film, especially visually. I was expecting something a lot shabbier and unfinished - mind you, I haven't watched any trailers or followed the development of the project very closely in the recent months -, so I was immediately impressed by the look and feel of the film.
The story wasn't great, nor was all the acting, yet the plot was less messy than I had feared, and most of the gags - albeit cheap - were well executed and produced appreciative reactions from the audience.
I've probably rated it one star too high for sheer enjoyment and surprise at the result, and in time upon rewatching it, I will probably rate it down. The film itself wasn't amazing, but seen in the light of the project that it was the result of, I'm quite impressed.
We obviously were in the same theater tonite (might be mistaken though); and with that audience, I am tempted to give it the same rating. The film however is not groing on me, but are having a decrecing value. It was obviously made with a lot of love to the movies; but the storyline, beyon the humour and the obvious gags, lacks miles to be good.
(posted before I proof read it, sorry :()
And I posted a reply letterboxd.com/watchinpreacher/film/iron-sky/#comment-10357 rather than here, because I didn't notice you'd commented here :P
Essentially, I think we're in agreement, I just choose to see the film as a result of the project it was. On its own, it's certainly not more than a 3/5, I just couldn't help being positively surprised as I was expecting something more like an unrefined student project.
Actually, I might just throw my comment up as my own review.
