Palle Boutrup’s review:
One the first movies to kick start the new wave of American cinema in the seventies. A farewell and tribute to the innocence and cinema of days gone by.
I remember seeing this first in my early teens, and at the time, I pretty much viewed it as a great coming-of-age story and little more. Now I realize it´s not so much that, as it is a heartbreaking story of a town slowly dying, or a whole era for that sake.
I think I imagined that Sonny, even though he had some troubles, would eventually be okay. Now I think that´s probably not the case at all.
Peter Bogdanovich, with the help from an amazing ensemble cast, made what can only be described as a certified classic, that gets to me every time I watch it.
