Dan Pendleton’s review published on Letterboxd:
For a martial arts film based on a popular beat 'em up computer game franchise, there is very little actual martial arts on display here. In fact, there is no actual 'street fighting' in the entire movie.
I know this film has a really bad reputation but I remember loving it as a child. I almost wish I hadn't revisited Street Fighter today and kept my fondness for it within the depths of my memory.
Steven E. de Souza approached this film in the complete wrong way, turning a tough and violent video game into a cheesy campfest. It makes a mockery of the franchise and disrespects all its fans. There are many interesting characters in the Street Fighter series but none of them are given the attention or respect they deserve on screen. Even as a fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme, he is incredibly miscast as Colonel Guile and this is by far one of his worst films.
If you haven't seen this film before, don't! But I would highly recommend picking up some of the old computer games.
