Shaun Bardal’s review:
This is a really fun movie. It’s a little slow to get going, with everyone showing up at the dinner party, but once Mr. Boddy is killed the enjoyment picks up quickly. It’s a very manic comedy, which is great because you don’t see a whole lot of big comedies like this anymore. Most of the humor in the movie is frantic, physical, slapstick comedy but there is a fair amount of situational humor, and quite a few laughs derived from wordplay which is something you don’t see nowadays. The ending is also unusual, but I won’t spoil what happens.
This was really the best way possible for the board game to be adapted into a movie. It doesn’t take itself too seriously (I’m looking at you, Battleship), and knows what it is. It’s a good time if you’re just hanging out and want to watch a silly, fun movie. It was exactly what I was in the mood for, and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
