ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2 2011
Having not seen Laid To Rest, I felt like there were elements of this that were wasted on me and I didn't always follow the convoluted plot. Nevertheless, there's enough here to please any fan of old-school slasher movies yet it has sufficient new ideas (and clearly big franchise ambitions) to feel fresh. What really makes it, however, is the jaw-dropping level of prosthetic visual FX, some of the best and grisliest I've seen. Indeed, there's more splattery gore in…

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
Fast paced, spectacular, but also kinda dumb. The first half is terrific, but then the plot twists kick in in a way that will have anyone with more than a passing knowledge of Trek knowing exactly where things are going. Fun, but deeply flawed.

The Lords of Salem 2013
Never been a fan of Rob Zombie's movies (though House of 1000 Corpses was ok, if memory serves me), so when I enjoyed the first 80 minutes of this, I thought we had a breakthrough.
Unfortunetly at that point, Rob himself got bored and instead of an ending, he filmed a couple of music videos and stuck them on and went home early.

Snow White and the Huntsman 2012
The visuals are quite impressive, and Charlize Theron hams it up nicely as the villain, but the film as a whole falls flat, due in no small part to the dodgy Scottish accent from Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart's talent and charisma of a tin of spam.

Maniac 2013
Frodo you crazy mutherfucker!! Elijah Wood was great in this. He makes Kevin from Sin City look like Elmo. I dug the POV aspect of this film and loved the music. It's very well directed and is more of a art film than anything. A great genre film but definitely not a fun watch. This is one remake that equals or might even top the original. With this and Lords of Salem I'm having a great horror week.

Cockneys vs Zombies 2013
"They are Vampires! We need crucifixes, garlic, silver, holy water and Christopher Lee!"
Was going to give this film 3 stars, but then the zombie song happened. Fucking a.w.e.s.o.m.e! I don't think I can watch another zombie flick now, without wanting to chant "zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies"
Full speed on the action, so much that the story got left behind somewhere around the opening credits. Not that it really matters, but it looks like every…

The ABCs of Death 2013
The ABC’s of Death is a portmanteau Horror film for the Chronic ADHD sufferer. 26 shorts from 26 directors, each with a budget of $5000. It’s 2 hours that zips by at an incredible pace thanks to a surprisingly small number of duff entries. (Ti west take a bow) There’s also a minor gripe with a few directors such as Kaare Andrews who seem to have taken it as an opportunity to create a backdoor pilot for there own projects,…

I Saw The Devil 2011
The revenge genre is one of my favorites and this is one of the best. You know a film is badass when even the good guy is a crazy motherfucker. Some of the best genre films are coming out of Korea.

The Inside 2013
As far as I'm aware, this Irish horror has a group of girls filming their party and then getting hassled and raped by some loud shouty tramps, which results in some loud screaming. Then some Rec influenced demons/zombies start attacking all of them.
The video camera is then found by a guy in a pawn shop who watches the footage and decides to investigate the scene .... at night ..... and alone ..... and doesnt tell the police.
This is…

Evil Dead 2013
Saw this yesterday and still not sure that I like it, which probably means I don't like it.
The characters are so generic and the male lead is your standard horror remake kinda guy.
His sister is a junkie, but she doesn't look like any of the junkies I've ever seen outside Glasgow Central Train Station.
Also, it does a back story to the evil and the evil also appears, which is different to the original, but I just don't think it worked.
I'm going to rewatch the original tonight, so will probably edit this later and take stars off my rating.

Iron Man 3 2013
Marvel's Cinematic Phase 2 starts with a bang. Or maybe a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang as despite being part of the multi-billion dollar franchise Iron Man 3 is most definitely a Shane Black film.
I won't say much as the less you know the more you will enjoy it.
For once the trailers have kept most of the plot under wraps but this sees Tony Stark going back to basics. Robert Downey Jnr. has the brash persona down to a…
