Leon: The Professional 1994 ★★★½

Watched Jun 02, 2012

I feel like I've seen parts of this before..but never it in it's entirety. It's about time I saw this all the way through. Let's see if Natalie Portman is as good in this as people say she is...

Gary-Fucking-Oldman is in this?! I had no idea. He's so damn good..and even better at evil roles, like here. His symphony in the beginning where he blasts Mathilda's mother and sister is brilliant. The way he's dancing to the music in his head, completely insane yet somehow not, slaughtering her family is just so calm and well acted.

The scene right after where Mathilda figures out that Leon is a cleaner and just responds with "cool" and a smirk is great. Leon looks back absolutely shocked. It seems as if he is used to hiding his profession, for good reason, and almost being ashamed of it, yet when Mathilda is so nonchalant about it it catches him off guard. A sign of things to come.

Man, Natalie Portman is very good in this..especially considering how young she is here. Jean Reno is pretty good too. And of course, Gary Oldman is crazy....good, but crazy.
