God this movie is good. When I first saw it it was an unexpected surprise and it still is to this day.
The chemistry between Hurt and Costner is fantastic. Both are equally as fantastic in their individual roles.
This is also the only film where I think Dane Cook is actually halfway decent.
The idea of the Thumbprint Killer is so good and so unique. Its awesome to see such a careful killer that, as Mr. Brooks says, doesn't like doing it but does it because its an addiction. Plus, he's Man of the Year. On the surface he's a great humanitarian, a great husband and father, and a successful businessman. Underneath, he is a damaged individual driven by a sick obsession that gives him a perverse pleasure. Hurt puts it best, that they live "tortured lives".
This is all derived from the very well-written script. It's a delight to see such great writing when alot of other jibberish is flooding the market.
The ending is also very sudden and very unexpected. It was great.
I've heard rumors and mumblings of a sequel....that would be amazing.
